It's been night and day since we joined this mastermind group and, honestly, we wish we would have had this before we opened. I think we would be a very successful restaurant if we knew what we were doing beforehand.

Being part of the mastermind group we all have something in common. It's like David said in the beginning that we all kind of hide under our shelves and we don't want to talk to the other competing restaurants around us. I think you feel more comfortable, because these are all restaurant owners that are all in the same boat. We all want to be successful. We want to make money.

We want to have a great life, enjoy what we're doing, bouncing ideas off of each other is great just to have this camaraderie of people that do the same thing that you do and have the support.

After we joined this group David gave us the key things to at least put into play right away. We controlled our labor tremendously, which was the thing that was sending us under and in the first two to three months I think we've saved between $20,000 and $30,000. I don't know the exact numbers, but it was a tremendous cut that we could do in our restaurant.

We never ever did receipt cards, we change our menu monthly and it's still hard and a struggle to keep up on that, but we know how important it is. It taught my husband how to delegate and not think that he has to do everything on his own.

For me personally the training manuals have been my favorite part of it, because that was my job. I had to make sure that I was the person training everybody, so I knew it was done right. Then Fred was the person training everybody, but now I can know that everybody is being trained equally with these manuals, so that to me has affected our restaurant a lot as well.

We had just joined and Fred was like there are just 20 restaurant owners coming and at that time, of course, we didn't have enough staff and Fred had to cook for them all. I'm sitting in this room with 20 people I don't know and I have to host this dinner, so to me I was totally freaked out. I didn't know what this group was, so that was my first experience, hosting this dinner for everybody and getting to know everybody, so it's fun.
